Week 5

Kia Ora!

Unfortunately at the cross country when I was going to take some photos of the children, my battery was flat! So if you would like to see some photos of the cross country you should check out our school website. Go to learning albums and there you should find the folder "Cross Country". This week for Kiwiana we are completing the different uses key, in which we get given an object (in this case a gumboot) and we have to think of 10 different uses for a gumboot. I will post on here some of the results. Other than that, week 5 is a rather quiet week so we can get down to business and complete a lot of our work!

Our Topic this term

Kia Ora!
Our topic for this term is Kiwiana (learning about Kiwi icons and what it means to us to be a Kiwi)

We started the unit with a brainstorm to see what we already knew about Kiwiana. We followed this up by completing a KWL chart (K=What we Know, what we Want to find out, what we have Learnt). The L part of the chart will obviously be filled out at the end of the unit.

Yesterday (Monday 4th May) we started to redesign the New Zealand national flag and we are still working on these. We are looking forward to completing these and displaying them on the classroom wall and some on here too (hopefully!).

What I have planned for us to cover this term will be mini studies on Kiwi (bird), and a native New Zealand bird of New Zealand of their choice, we will also be completing a mini study on the All Blacks. We are going to use Tony Ryans thinkers key to challenge and deepen our thinking (these are displayed on our classroom wall) on different aspects of Kiwiana.

We are also looking forward to our School Disco on Thursday, our syndicate Trip to the Library and the art gallery, which will be a very exciting trip!

Thats all for now, next update sometime this week

Welcome to Room 2's new Blog site!

I am very new to blogging so we will see how this all goes. I will try and write a new post at least every week!
